Interior Design Project Info

Located in the residential area of Bandar Sunway Tunas, the site sits directly opposite the Olive Tree Hotel and close proximity to the SPICE Arena on the Northern side, with residential wrapping around it. This creates a good opportunity to introduce a bakery into the local context as there are currently no bakery in the surrounding area.

The brief is to create a bakery which is family friendly and has a warm, clean and comfortable environment. A place for the bakers to demonstrate their skills and the locals to enjoy the freshly baked bread straight from the oven.

This design proposed the extension of space being made visible through bodies such as ceiling panels constructed in a linear directional way, placement of cabinet and furnishing that creates a sense of moving forward. The importance of proportion and scale of the display rack, tables, floor finish, materials are crucial for a balance in composition of space.

This would create a smoothing atmosphere for the locals and nearby workers to enjoy. The aim is to create not just an ordinary bakery but a place to relax, slow down the pace of today’s world and admire the craft of bakery. This design explores a simple approach to achieve its maximum efficiency by planning a U-shape circulation.

Arriving at the entrace of the bakery, visitors starts their journey by approaching to the left of the space where trays and tongs can be found. Placement of the display rack will sits on both sides and the center of the overal retail space. This fluidity of space is achieve through the understanding of mother nature where most general things move in a clockwise motion, ie. earth revolves around the sun.

Memories are made between the mood and sense of touch. The tangibility, smell and acoustic qualities of materials needs to carefully place and position to achieve the overall sense and meanings of the materials in that specific space. This design proposed a subtle use of soft-warmth natural materials which in this case timber, along with secondary element which has a durability and rustic feeling towards.

The material proposed in this design also explores the idea of industrial craftmanship of a baker baking in a warehouse serving the whole community of people with delicious bread. The use of steel elements, glass, raw concrete texture, with old classic tiles will illustrates the industrial trade atmosphere. Warmth lighting will be use to create a sense of mood towards the space whilst letting visitors to slowing explore the variety of breads and patisserie.
