This Semi-Detach End Unit House was one of a property that owned by a lady owner many years ago, she used to stay here with her husband and three daughters during their children school age time. She decided to move back to this old house after her husband pass away.
Originally is a typically early nineties style of new urban development located at Petaling Jaya. The owner wishes to convert the house to an exciting modern design nuances while embracing the outdoor green nature yet provide them with a higher quality of living.
Given its previously decrepit state, the brief for the redevelopment of this house originally called for a total demolition. However, upon the local authorities requirements, with the witnessing possibilities and value of the existing dwelling, the client was encouraged to partially retain and transform the entire facade, with the potential that it could enable an even richer response when aligned with a newer interior intervention.
Few primary elements were brought into the design process by defining the transformation: the merge of the new and old, the new side glazed windows wall, and the new high double volume living space.
The journey throughout the entire home is set up as a series of framed sections. Material, colour and detail variation are utilized in combination with the double volume living strategy to exaggerate the settings and temporal division of this modern house.
A True reinvention of a modern classic home, the new design thoroughly embraces the local authorities guideline that, “New works should be identifiable as a separate entity distinguishable from existing building by enable to merge with the interior and yet evoked the little warm memories of this home.
