About Journey of Transformation Artisan Sdn Bhd

Established in 2011 and based in Georgetown, Penang, JOTA advocates maintaining a harmonious balance among human, nature, commerce, culture and history within their design practices, pursues the essence of “Tradition”, that it’s necessary to discard the notion that tradition is something of the past, old, tacky , and entirely indigenous. As one can glimpse from the process through which phonographs have evolved into Bluetooth speakers, retaining the original purpose of something but applying new technology and idea of preserving tradition. To us, trying something new doesn’t mean obliterating the past; rather it is a solidification of the core of tradition by adding something new to the past. As we believe people cannot simply put something new into a place without considering the existent, it has to absorb what is around us, what exists on our motherland and then use that knowledge along with contemporary thought to interpret into the design process – “Transforming the old soul by inserting the new whole”

JOTA controls the whole process from concept to construction, and strives for a quality and emotional spatial environment based from the contemporary era and embraces the future. In 2014, JOTA start collaboration with EDI Architects (Essential Design Integrated), which is a multi-disciplinary and multi awards winning practice based in Kuala Lumpur that explores and examines the concepts of boutique and customized living with a comprehensive and extensive dialogue towards each particular users.
