Interior Design & Architectural Project Info
Another reborn project by designer Joanne & Benny, transforming from a 20-year old double-storey to modern and eclectic bohemian abode. They share, “drawing inspiration from client’s travels, our client liked eclectic bohemian interiors, where modern items ‘live’ with some client’s existing furniture. In the living room, the homeowners insisted to remain the existing marble flooring to match with their favourite owned furniture and collections.
The kitchen area is one of the highlights of this project. The homeowner wanted a spacious modern farmhouse kitchen. When it comes to modern farmhouse style, period-inspired lighting is a must-have. Therefore, the team extended the area and installed glass roof where the family can enjoy sunlight or night sky at the breakfast nook area. Due to the previous awkward layout, some of the walls were demolished to maximize the space. This modern farmhouse kitchen is also fitted with custom black and white spray painted cabinetry and an elegant island for the homeowner to prepare food and able to interact with her guests while she is cooking.
On the other hand, “there were two staircases located at different areas and were not connected. Client wanted them to be connected that leads up straight to the third-floor attic,” the team shares. The old wooden staircase on the second floor was strategically removed and repositioned with a new staircase with black metal railing to tie the overall design scheme together. “There was a small mezzanine floor with wooden floor, we demolished the whole area and built the new attic with concrete floor and extended the balcony area.”
By combining the homeowner’s favourite collections with clever design sensibilities, the design team has managed to carve out a personal sanctuary that’s perfect for the young occupant. “We are very proud to be able to incorporate everything our client wished for into the design of this home.” – Joanne & Benny.
