Project Overview
Interior Design Project Info
Australian Cake House, as its name suggests, is a bakery specializing in confectionery that was established 50 years ago. The latest incarnation of this resilient bakery is an elegant space with an elevated design language intended to cement its position as the neighbourhood favourite.
Walking up to the shop, a timber-toned oriented strand board façade immediately puts the space in stark contrast to its surroundings. The signature irregular wood flakes give it a rough, variegated surface, providing a lively and unexpected texture. Two large windows flank the arched doors, providing more than a glimpse of the sweet treats within, beckoning one enter and explore its interiors.
Once insight, the timber tones extend from roof to floor, providing a warm, homey vibe. Timber slates dominate the sides and back, with further hints of the oriented strand boards towards the counter, sitting underneath fridges of cakes. An central wooden island rises up across the counter, providing yet more opportunity to display what the shop has to offer.
Overlooking the space are custom, hand crafted pendant lights made of paper – a cloud of flowers playfully bouncing light and illuminating the space. Amidst the earthy tones is a hit of green stained veneer to the side, providing a pop of colour and balancing the feel of the bakery.
