Interior Design & Architectural Project Info

This project involved a complete transformation of a 40-year-old intermediate terrace house, which initially suffered from dim lighting and low beams that divided the spaces. The primary goal was to convert this space into an energy-efficient and sustainable working environment.

To address the challenge of insufficient natural light typically found in intermediate units, we installed transparent roof tiles. These innovative additions were strategically designed to generate skylights, optimizing the influx of natural light, and illuminating the space.

Additionally, we focused on enhancing natural ventilation in circulation spaces by implementing facade treatments, including perforated panels and well-placed windows. This design allows for improved air circulation, facilitating a refreshing breeze from the front to the back of the building. To maintain a comfortable interior temperature, we incorporated insulation, which helps reduce daytime heat. For added comfort, ceiling fans were installed to complement the cooling system.

The facade was meticulously designed to set this unit apart from the neighbouring properties along Jalan Choong Lye Hock. It not only features an angle that optimizes sunlight exposure but also ensures privacy.

We were committed to preserving the allure of the original broken marble floor finish in the entrance and meeting room. This symbolic gesture reflects the metamorphosis of this aging house into a vibrant, modern workspace.

The meeting room was thoughtfully designed with sleek furnishings, a harmonious colour palette, and an abundance of natural light. Every element was carefully curated to inspire the team's creativity and facilitate quicker decision-making.

In addition to the meeting room, we also introduced a fully equipped pantry, offering #TheTeamOfDS a space to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee while brainstorming new ideas. Moreover, we removed the dividing wall between two rooms, transforming them into a spacious, open working area. This open workspace is designed to provide a comfortable and inclusive physical environment that fosters job satisfaction and enhances performance. To be environmentally conscious, we retained the existing timber flooring at upper floor, preserving the historical character of the space.
