Interior Design Project Info

Unagiya Shin, a modest space with 24 seaters situated in Penang island, specializes in authentic and fresh grilled eels dishes. The design concept of Unagya Shin is defined by #TheTeamOfDS with an Industrial Chic interior design provides a casual an cozy atmosphere for customers to dine-in, setting the current gastronomic trend.

With a gastronomic interior design in industrial chic style in mind, we designed the space with raw materials: weathered rusty metals and natural hemp ropes with marks of time, exposed bricks, raw solid wood and stainless steel elements.

The dim light stands out from the dark, “unagiya” in japanese words are lit up in LED rod lighting installed on recycled rusted zinc roof sheets that has been treated and painted with anti-corrosion sealant. The same material (recycled rusted zinc) is applied as a decorative facade complement by the "SHIN" logo in gold finish that welcomes customers. Natural hemp ropes draped aesthetically across the ceiling acting as a decorative feature as well as acoustic insulation.

The charisma of Unagiya Shin featured on the mural art wall with artistically hand painted eels and Japanese words of “cheers” and “delicious” symbolizing the vibes of authentic Japanese cuisine. With an attractive aesthetic and a friendly atmosphere, this restaurant has become an authentic and unique place on the island to enjoy a good meal.

In order to be environmentally conscious, the chairs, tables and kitchen equipment that the shop owner has already owned were reused after refurbishing (chairs and tables) and servicing (kitchen equipment).
