THE BRIEF:
The vision – to design a haven in the heart of the city for The Lemon Tree @ Parkroyal Collection KL, with the goal of delivering an Instagrammable experience. A relaxed, cosy vibe that beckons patrons to unwind amidst a visually stunning ambience was to be crafted.

THE DESIGN CONCEPT:
Embodying the "Modern French Style," The Lemon Tree is an artful blend of traditional and contemporary elements. Artistic accents seamlessly coexist with natural elements, while contemporary design gracefully merges with traditional-styled finishes, creating an exquisite fusion of classic and organic aesthetics.

What one finds here is an enthralling blend of rustic and refined décor, complemented by muted-coloured fabrics and neutral black and white, evoking a comfortable and casually elegant atmosphere that gracefully avoids ostentation, making The Lemon Tree a soothing escape from the everyday hustle of KL city life.

The Lemon Tree: Nature's Embrace
Living up to its name, the cafe is characterised by its faux lemon trees, bushes and vines. A larger tree catches the eye at the far end of the cafe, many hang above the counter, and smaller ones find their home in planter boxes around the seating area, injecting vibrant splashes of colour and fostering a harmonious union with nature.

Relaxed Sophistication: The Artful Blend of Comfort and Elegance
Crafted from natural rattan webbing on black powder-coated metal frames, complemented by muted yellow and green cushions for added flair, the seating is both cosy and elegant, offering an inviting, chilled-out vibe.

The tables, with light-coloured surfaces, feature bold black metal legs underneath that capture the essence of French style. This unique combination of modern materials on traditional forms creates a visually stunning ambience.

The comfortable furnishings and relaxed vibe provide the perfect backdrop for shared moments and conversations, while the specific use of loose furniture enhances flexibility, seamlessly accommodating both large groups and intimate gatherings.

Mastering Light: A Symphony of Sunshine and Shade
Floor-to-ceiling French doors and windows bring light into the environment, and allow seamless harmony between the indoors and the outdoors. In consideration of the Malaysian weather, practical roller blinds offer control – either providing shade when it's too bright or welcoming light as the sky dims.

Tile and Timber: The Stylish and Sustainable Fusion of Combination Flooring
Light grey hexagon tiles adorn the dining space, adding character without distraction and ensuring easy maintenance. Around the perimeter, the existing timber flooring, repurposed and polished, emerges as a cost-effective, eco-friendly choice that seamlessly integrates into the natural colour scheme of the space. This flooring combination is a testament to The Lemon Tree's commitment to both aesthetics and sustainability.

Colours in Harmony: Modern French Palette Infused with Nature's Hues
Drawing inspiration from the French colour palette, The Lemon Tree's design harmoniously blends timeless neutrals with subtle tones. In a nod to nature, the colour scheme takes cues from the lemon tree, incorporating muted yellow seat cushions, olive green throw pillows, and sandy brown rattan backing, while laser-cut accents in pastel greyish-blue reflect the sky, creating a cohesive theme.

Black metal chairs inject boldness, providing a stark contrast against the light white and grey table tops and otherwise muted colour scheme, accentuating focal points. This thoughtfully curated colour scheme weaves a story of nature's influence, making each element, from cushions to furniture, a clever integration of the lemon tree's essence into the space.


THE CHALLENGES:
Creating The Lemon Tree @ Parkroyal Collection KL posed the distinctive challenge of making style look effortlessly easy.

The Lemon Tree embraces tasteful simplicity. The cafe is elegantly furnished, striking a seamless balance between classic and modern elements, giving off an illusion of effortless creation, as if Nature herself lent a helping hand.

Yet, meticulous planning down to the smallest detail is the reality behind this charm, aiming for a well-kept English garden vibe over a wild backyard or an uptight palace ground. Warm and natural, the design feels organised yet organic, and embodies the French style, appealing to those who appreciate simplicity and chic sophistication.

The result is a space that's bright, elegant and irresistibly inviting – perfect for a morning coffee, a delightful mid-day treat, a leisurely hangout with friends or a weekend brunch with family, and of course, for one to Instagram it all.
