Occupying four units of shop-lots in a relatively new township of Gala City in Kuching, Sarawak, The Rūme Hotel is a 44-room project that also offers a unique dining experience on the ground floor.
"Rūme," translating to ‘space’ in Latvian, encapsulates a vision of vastness and inclusivity – a sentiment that declares, ‘every guest finds their space here’. This overarching concept translates into an interior marked by contemporary versatility, designed to cater to multifarious hospitality requirements. Each space will have a distinct ambiance while sharing a common thread of sophistication, comfort, and functionality.
Setting the tone of the hotel's design journey are the sinuous patterns gracing the ceilings and floors, choreographing a dynamic interplay of spaces. From the moment of entry at the hotel reception, this motif fluidly guides visitors through the lounge, culminating in the dining arena. The latter is accentuated by an iconic I-beam structure, beautifully illustrating a dance between linear precision and organic fluidity. The combination of warm wood tones with white and greys creates a sense of calm, vibrancy and comfort.
The design concept carries through from the lobby to the individual rooms, with the same intention to offer a calming retreat that adapts to the evolving needs of its occupants, whether on business or leisure.
Confronted with the structural challenges of the shop-lot design, the hotel embraces innovative space solutions without compromising on comfort and tranquility. Prioritizing space efficiency while ensuring optimal functionality was key, thereby the wardrobe, pantry and working desk are meticulously merged and open with simple lines. A standout design feature is the dual-purpose bathroom door, ingeniously serving as both an access point and a shower enclosure, cleverly maximizing the available area.
The lobby exudes a lively and dynamic ambiance, in contrast, the rooms are thoughtfully curated with a harmonious blend of subdued tones and sleek, well-defined lines, resulting in a balanced and welcoming atmosphere that beckons guests to unwind and feel at ease.
At Rūme, the interior aims to fuse the distinct elements of each space into a singular cohesive design that celebrates moments of connection and relaxation. This concept encapsulates the essence of modern living, where style and comfort converge in perfect harmony. Every element, every space in Rūme, serves as a testament to the philosophy of harmonious coexistence, truly living up to its promise – a space where everyone belongs.
