The site is located in Bandar Puteri, a peaceful neighborhood in Puchong; the place where client and his wife want their dream house to be. The couple purchased an old 2.5-storey corner lot terrace house in the neighborhood yet the existing house condition did not fit their requirements in terms of overall layout. The spaces within the existing house were also dimmed and lack of natural daylight. Therefore, the design brief called for a renovation to this existing old house to cater for client's preferences and growing needs of his family.
Taking the advantage of this house as a corner unit house and the context of being surrounded by large trees all round, the design concept of modern tropical has been adopted into the overall house design. Through design strategies like natural daylighting via large openings and skylight, natural ventilation via open, semi-open spaces and ventilation blocks, the family gets to experience the beauty of nature through different spaces in the house.
This house comprises of 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, feature pond and koi pond at the garden, and last but not least, a gym room with sauna located at second floor for client's relaxation during weekends. The materials used are also chosen to reflect the concept of modern tropical. For instances, timber flooring was selected for these areas: the gym that overlooks the green forest view, semi outdoor terrace and outdoor terrace area besides the garden at the ground floor; to create a connection to nature.
The overall color scheme for the interior is off white to keep the interior bright throughout the day in response to client’s requirement. Last but not least, smart home feature was also incorporated in the house design to control various functions of the home including the lighting and garden irrigation etc. This smart home system was designed by the house owner who is a system designer himself.
