As you step foot into the cozy apartment, home to a family of three, the voluminous interior space emphasizes a sense of scale and generosity and exudes a serene ambiance that invites you to relax and unwind. In overseeing the total makeover of this 1,900 sq. ft. abode, Matteness Interior Design was commissioned to turn it into a compelling residence and a calm oasis that the owners can grow with. Nothing is from the previous house other than the original shell, existing joinery, flooring, and surfaces were reworked to align with a more relevant approach.
The starting point of the complete makeover was always a reconfiguration of the layout, the plan for the home had to balance aesthetic and functionality. The design team was equally mindful of letting in as much daylight as possible, something the unit was desperately in need of. To create open spaces between the communal space consistent with modern classic design, the existing cabinets between the living and dining halls were removed. Instead, a new bar counter for casual meals or workspace was introduced to segregate the dining hall from the living space. The semi-barrier-free space allows seamless connectivity, unencumbered views, and basking in ample natural light spilling from the living room's end. The result is an open space that is relax and welcoming.
The team blended classic aesthetics with a modern twist deliberately, to create a captivating look. The color palette was deliberately kept limited, with an emphasis on white and beige tones, natural-log color flooring. Taking advantage of the high ceiling, the living hall features an exceptional shade of green, contributed by the full-height Veria Green natural marble feature wall, which adds a touch of diversity and also exudes a sense of opulence.
Reflecting the classic hues of the communal areas, the bedrooms employ similar strategies to present European vernacular aesthetics. In the master bedroom, a noteworthy feature is a white wardrobe with gold handles that draw the romance and elegance of the classic style into the bedroom.
