Interior Design & Architectural Project Info
In the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s historic of Pak Luk Kan (106) area, the mission is to transform a century-old bungalow in the area into a striking modern-day versatile beauty salon. This is a refurbishment and restructuring project that will reimagines heritage with futuristic edge design that aimed to breathes new life and purpose into the building. The brief was to craft the biggest salon in Malaysia that feels both rooted in history and ahead of its time and create a space for a new legacy in salon functions.
We carefully balanced heritage preservation and conservation through design innovation, by retaining the core of its original building structure and materials from the last century such as colonial era architraves, solid Cengal woods and brickwall columns while reinterpreting new architectural and interior design with art & fashionable forms that is able to blend well with the entire aesthetics.
The old timber structure flooring was removed and conserve for interior design, while new Bondek composite floor was added for first floor expansion with a skylight roof design on top of it to introduce natural daylighting directly complimenting a tree planted in the middle of the building. Landscape design is also mixed with conservation of existing ventilation block parapet wall and preservation of a multi-generational family tree with contemporary landscaping selections.
The overall designs response respects the originality of the compound features while introducing innovative modern-day solution such as membrane lightings, combination of raw & contemporary textures, with touches of all forms of basic geometry converge an atmosphere that is both avant-garde and naturally eye-catching to passer-by. The goal of this new mixed approach is able to establish a dialogue between the past and the future, from what once stood as a quiet residential bungalow now emerges as a target for modern beauty culture.
The new building designs merged memories with modernity, it becomes more than a space for beauty services, it showcases the potential for a conservation of existing architectural, interior and landscaping elements and reinterpret it through a forward and future-proof design. The final product will become a state-of-the-art in the process for this Pak Luk Kan enclave.
