Interior Design & Architectural Project Info

Completed in Dec 2016, the house stands elevated on the hillside in Taman Desa, an established suburb of Kuala Lumpur. The 753m2 site slopes down from the main access road.
The land was bare giving us the utmost advantage on working out its spatial composition from scratch similar to working on a blank canvas. Following a minimalist principle of rational simplicity, the house is organised as two parallel blocks connected by the staircase to all floors. This longitudinally arrangement is to take advantage of cross ventilation and natural daylight. Deep canopies on facades along the sun path help to control the internal temperature, while a water feature at the rear of the house also helps to cool the surrounding air. With this, the quality of temperature and light control within the house are taken care of.
A canopy floats in front of the house to create a weightless statement in contrast to the grounded house form. The living and dining areas are separated by the recreational deck and koi pond, providing its inhabitants the sense of serenity, spacious abode to return to at the end of the day.
We have boldly played and experimented with pure cubic forms and deliberately minimise the detailing, enhancing the simplicity of the massing and the juxtaposition of the solidity and transparency. Overall the scheme is an expressive piece of architecture responding to the needs of an expanding family.
