Interior Design & Architectural Project Info

This double-storey home was transformed from a run-down old house, into a brightly lit, chic, modern family home with a pool and a workshop in the backyard.

Due to the slope of the site, the original home is spread over four half floors, separated by a walled-up central air-well. The natural drop in ground level towards the back of the site of the home is significantly lower than the rest of the land, and provided an opportunity to create a pool and a basement-type workshop below. The pool sits almost the full length of the lot, with just enough space for stairs going down to the workshop and leading to the greenery beyond the boundary.

Maintaining the original airwell and stairwell located at the center of the home was a must, but in order to harness and maximize the natural light and ventilation, it was important to remove the walls around the airwell and to introduce a glass skylight above. This central space spanning the height of the house carries warmth and brightness effortlessly to all levels while also allowing for better connection across both the length of the house as well as across all the levels of the home.
