Our journey with this project began long before the condominium was even acquired. The owner had a clear vision of his ideal penthouse, and we had the privilege of accompanying him on the journey to select the perfect property. After meticulous consideration and extensive property viewings throughout Kuala Lumpur, we arrived at the unanimous decision to invest in a unit at Uptown Residences in Petaling Jaya. The unit, though promising, already had some existing finishing touches. However, the owner's vision and expectations were vastly superior to what was already there. To bring this vision to life, we gutted the entire unit and embarked on an ambitious endeavor to transform the space.
The owners brief was in essence the following: To create the epitome of luxury living that redefines the art of harmonizing nature with technology while having the flexibility to transform from a tranquil hotel lounge by day to a vibrant Maldivian club paradise by night. The underlying theme of this penthouse was to have a unique fusion of Californian beach house aesthetics and Asian architectural influences, a testament to the owner's life spent between North America and Asia. This summary unveils the features that make this penthouse a sanctuary of sophistication and convenience.
Seamless Indoor, Outdoor Living, Framing the Breath-taking view.
Upon stepping into the unit, one is immediately captivated by the seamless blend of indoor and outdoor space. To achieve this we replaced all the foldable glass doors in the living area to make it 11ft high and to be able to collapse fully to one side thus opening effortlessly onto a spacious outdoor patio and pool. We also made a conscious choice to match the color of the outdoor decking with the indoor oak wood floorings. This deliberate design decision creates a harmonious connection and a blurring of the lines between the indoor and outdoor areas. The result is a sense of boundless space, reflecting the open, airy feel of Californian beach houses. This is further accentuated by the breathtaking views from the 29th floor, which makes the entire living space feel like a vast, open haven in the sky.
15ft High Ceilings and a 20ft High Skylight
Thanks to the generous 15ft high ceilings throughout the unit, we seized a unique design opportunity. We paneled the entire living room ceiling with wood, a design element uncommon in Malaysian homes but often found in American and Japanese architecture. This distinctive feature serves as a bridge between the two distinct design styles, forging a connection that reflects the owner's appreciation for both American and Asian aesthetics. But it doesn't stop there; at the heart of this home is a breathtaking 20-foot-high skylight situated in the middle, where the courtyard and entrance to the rooms is located. This skylight fills the entire space with an abundance of natural light, enveloping the interior in an aura of serenity. The courtyard beneath the skylight becomes one of the focal points of the penthouse, a serene oasis that marries the Californian concept of open spaces with the Asian reverence for natural light and harmony.
Smart Home Integration
The essence of modernity and convenience is encapsulated in the penthouse's smart home integration. Cutting-edge technology allows residents to control lighting, climate, security, and entertainment at their fingertips. It transforms the penthouse into an interactive and responsive living space, ensuring comfort and convenience with every command. In this penthouse, even the doors evoke a sense of the future. The main entrance and all room doors feature automatic sliding pocket doors, ushering residents into spaces with grace and sophistication. The Masterbathroom and guestbaths are also equipped with state of the art automatic water closets by Kohler.
Daytime Hotel Lounge, Nighttime Maldivian Club Vibes
One of the most remarkable aspects of this penthouse is its ability to adapt to different moods and moments. By day, the space exudes the tranquil elegance of a high-end hotel lounge. But as the sun dips below the horizon, it transforms into a vibrant chilled out Maldivian club, thanks to a meticulously designed lighting and sound system. This dynamic transformation ensures that every moment is tailored to perfection.
An Array of Luxurious Facilities
The penthouse offers an extensive array of amenities that cater to the most discerning tastes. Retreat to the sauna or steam room for relaxation, or soak in the jacuzzi. Swim against the swim jets in the heated salt water pool. Experience weightlessness in the zero gravity bath tub, then luxuriate under a giant rain shower equipped with massage water jets. For culinary enthusiasts, a fully-equipped, custom made stainless steel restaurant kitchen and a dry kitchen with Gaggenau appliances awaits. The dry kitchen also features a 120+ bottle wine chiller, dishwasher, built in freezer and fridge, and an electric hob with a retractable hood.
