Iskandar Puteri in Johor is home to 1.8 million people, placing it as the third largest urban agglomeration in the country and the largest urban integrated development in South East Asia. It offers numerous food & beverage outlets, destinations & attractions, nature parks, and a host of international and local events & happenings. It is thus most natural that it is home to a well-known construction company that specializes in road maintenance, called ‘Maintenance’.

The façade is imposing with black Modena coating the building from its walls to the black perforated aluminum give a masculine, rugged feel while letting in ample natural lighting through its floor-to-ceiling windows. Entering this company’s contemporary headquarters, it uses strong black Modena paint on its ceiling and walls, contrasted against bright yellow lighting tracks and multi-colored wood panels. This is synonymous with the road on any highway – black tar with yellow lines to segregate the lanes on a two-way road. Similarly, the concrete floor has the multiple patterns used as road markings. These signature road sculptures on the ground floor of the public area and the traffic light reflects the identity of the business. Round dark red velvet carpets frame each discussion area on the main floor. They are made inviting with light grey upholstered seating and warm brown coffee tables. Using polished metal, the company’s logo showcases a winding road.

Following the white arrows inwards passes the open space bar. It uses customized arrow-shaped fluorescent lighting over a rectangular table that encases a concrete divider. Flanked by bright yellow chairs and warm brown benches, this is designed to indicate the importance of ‘being part of the community’. Under this social area is a white pavement allotted space while cones are neatly arranged on the display divider rack. A simple and tasteful, the pantry uses intermittent laminated warm wood and plain white cabinet doors with small white tiles for its backsplash.

Directly opposite it is a dynamic meeting room with clean lines. It is a space of white walls and ceiling for a change. For privacy, the glass sliding doors can be closed. However, it continues to use black curtains and a cabinet of yellow and black to ensure a cohesive look with the rest of the office. Behind these is an industrial looking lift landing area. Textured grey Suzuka paint is used on the walls while the lift door and door frame are polished metal.

On the higher floors, the boardroom uses contemporary black and steel office chairs with black and warm brown accents that elongate this space. The company’s logo is frosted on clear glass for both decorative and safety reasons. The logo is also found as a chic black handle for all the doors. The private rooms are made out of sitting areas and office space. The sitting area uses till blue carpet and blue Suzuka paint on the textured wall, contemporary black floor lamp and black metal table. These bring out the colors of the comfy white two-seater and orange single sofa. Elevated on wooden panels, the office space is a cozy area of browns, black and yellow.

Inside, the private office is relatively bare. Laminated surface office tables with ergonomic chairs and blue dividers span throughout the space. Outside, the waiting area is an alcove of dark blue and accents of beige and bright yellow. Other open space social areas are the twin niche of dark blue and white. Giving an inviting feel, the patterned upholstered benches give the impression of calm and trustworthiness. A truly magnificent epigraph of a company that maintains public road.
