Interior Design Project Info

CHASE Gym in Bangsar reimagines the fitness environment as a journey through the rhythm of the human body. The interior design concept is driven by the tempo of the heart, with each space calibrated to reflect a different heart rate (BPM) associated with physical and emotional states—from calm anticipation to peak performance and recovery. This physiological framework transforms the gym into a spatial heartbeat, guiding users through zones of focus, intensity, and renewal.

The experience begins at the reception area, designed around a resting BPM range (60–80 bpm). The atmosphere is composed and welcoming, with warm tones, gentle lighting, and soft acoustic textures. Natural materials and subtle lighting transitions create a sense of calm, easing members into a mindset of readiness. This is the gym’s threshold space—a pause before motion.

As users transition into the strength and conditioning zone, the heart rate rises to between 120–160 bpm. The design responds to this increase in energy through focused spatial clarity and visual intensity. Clean lines, balanced proportions, and controlled lighting support concentration and motivation. The palette remains refined yet dynamic, using tone and contrast to evoke drive without aggression. Lighting is cooler and more directional, emphasizing precision and performance. The result is an environment that sharpens focus and mirrors the rhythm of exertion.

The spin studios represent the gym’s highest BPM range (140–180 bpm), designed to capture the collective energy of movement. Here, lighting plays a central role—programmable LEDs pulse in sync with the beat of the music and the cadence of the workout, immersing participants in rhythm and momentum. The space is enveloping yet uplifting, encouraging members to move in unison and lose themselves in the sensory experience of sound and light.

In the pilates and recovery studios, the BPM lowers to a moderate range (90–110 bpm). The design language softens accordingly: neutral palettes, gentle illumination, and textured finishes encourage balance and mindfulness. These spaces emphasize composure and breathing, using visual calmness and spatial simplicity to support controlled, restorative movement. The atmosphere here feels slower, grounded, and contemplative—a contrast to the dynamic pace of the training zones.

Finally, the recovery and cold plunge areas are tuned to the body’s lowest BPM levels (60–80 bpm). The palette shifts toward cooler hues and natural textures, evoking tranquility and renewal. Lighting is diffused and minimal, creating a spa-like serenity that promotes physical and mental decompression. Acoustics are hushed, and spatial proportions are deliberately intimate to encourage stillness.

Throughout CHASE, lighting and sensory transitions trace the rise and fall of the heart rate. Brighter, sharper tones accompany intensity, while soft gradients and warm illumination mark the return to rest. The flow between spaces is fluid and intuitive—users are guided not by signs but by subtle shifts in tone, temperature, and atmosphere.

Material selection and detailing prioritize comfort, endurance, and hygiene. Finishes are tactile yet refined, ensuring a cohesive visual language that supports the rhythm of activity and recovery. Every surface and tone is designed to enhance focus without distraction, emphasizing sensory balance over spectacle.

Ultimately, CHASE Gym’s interior design translates the science of heart rate into an experiential architecture. Each room embodies a physiological state—awaken, perform, recover—allowing users to feel their body’s rhythm reflected in the environment. This integration of design and biology elevates the gym beyond function, transforming it into a space of movement, emotion, and harmony, where architecture quite literally moves to the beat of the human heart.
