Interior Design Project Info

Located at the fringe of Kuala Lumpur, the apartment unit was a cookie-cutter space of bare-boned and stark white structures. Designed for a young bachelor in a creative industry, the transformation of the space was nothing less than revolutionary.

Answering to the needs of having a space for inspiration, the apartment was envisioned to build as luxurious yet unobtrusive bachelor pad, with room for creative indulgence.

The configuration of the apartment was reimagined to break through the rigidity of the existing structure, a fine tweak was done to optimising the fluidity of the space, that enhances the daily living experience. Owing to the restriction of the unit’s strata status, an additional challenge was taken care of in the progress of rethinking the layout.

As a monotonic open layout apartment, there was a lack of defined spatial emphasis in its original form. A thoughtful ceiling layering and new slanted wall was erected to combat the hard corners, created a foyer that connects the entrance to the rest of the apartment. The home is now greeted with inviting entryway, while the new structure also cleverly incorporates more hidden storages.

The standard L-shaped kitchen was transformed into an open galley kitchen that connects visually with the living area, perfect for a nice quiet meal or hosting a small soirée. The unique kitchen island cum lounge was designed for dynamic use, with an ambience suitable for entertainment, work, and quiet introspection. The installation of good quality electrical appliances, such as the Italian-made Foster Integrated refrigerator and hood, saves space for the home chef and adds to the visual appeal of the kitchen.

The luxury touch of the space was manifested through the selection of imported furniture, namely the Wendelbo sofa, Molteni & C bookcase, and Poliform bar stool, elevates the comfort of the home. The carefully selected ironmongeries such as Buster+Punch door handle fittings has added a sense of elegance.
Woven vinyl flooring not only lends a unique texture and a contemporary look to the home, but also serves a functional purpose which is to absorb sound – a boon for music enthusiasts who want to maintain good relationships with their neighbours.

A monochromatic colour scheme was chosen to give a warm, elegant, and luxurious feel, and this colour palette offers greater flexibility in ambience and décor. The intelligent use of Philips Hue smart home lighting technology allows for the colour temperature to be changed to suit the mood du jour. Scented candles and soothing essential oils complete the sensory experience. As a bonus, the energy-saving feature of smart home solutions makes the home more sustainable. It enables the homeowner to have precise control over the temperature of the home with a smart device that can learn your schedule and preferences, then suggesting the most energy-efficient settings for the day – the best way to save a penny and the planet.

Thoughtful planning, attention to detail and avant-garde attitude has turn a run-of-the-mill apartment unit into an absolute treat. Here, luxury was re-interpreted with more architectural significance in creating an immersive living space that anyone would be proud to call home.
