Interior Design Project Info
Located in the suburb of Bandar Seri Alam, Johor Bahru, this bungalow was transformed into a fantastical space right out of a story book. The client bought the sprawling 4,000 sq ft house as his vacation home and wanted it refurbished in a modern take of the British Colonial style.
The mood is set from the first impression where a grand “library” greets guests upon stepping into the foyer. Taking advantage of the double volume space, shelves were designed to fill up the wall space and styled with books, objet d’art and plants. To showcase the landscaped garden and invite natural light in, the designers created an architrave which frames the window with crystal glass so that the view looks like a picture.
Just off the foyer is the living room where the mood is more intimate. Accented with a yellow sofa and softly backlit panelling, sheer black curtains evoke a private mood. In contrast, the dining room has a grand presence with a majestic 12 seater wood slab table and chesterfield style dining chairs. The curvilinear wood grain of the wood is echoed by the custom design light feature and carpet motif. This striking custom light feature is crafted from sheer fabric which serves as a focal point for the ground floor and first floor.
The kitchen also has a dramatic quality with the addition of glistening black chandeliers. Baroque patterns adorn the kitchen cabinets from end to end creating a rhythmic view which matches the chandeliers.
In the staircase landing, the designers took the opportunity to create a gallery of framed artwork inspired by the work of French artist, Henri Matisse, famous for his captivating colourful collages.
All bedrooms have a classical feel with different colour themes so entering each one feels like a unique journey of discovery.
