You may have heard of Japandi, the love child of Scandinavian design and Japanese minimalism, but with NOFF, it’s Korean minimalism that takes centre stage. Korean minimalism is based on the principle of balance, but with a contemporary touch added into the mix – a perfect combination of nature and simplicity paired with modern elements like odd and often abstract shapes. With the Korean minimalism aesthetic, you have simplicity, functionality, plenty of natural materials and a serene colour palette. Its emphasis lies in achieving balance and intentionality – everything in the design has its purpose and place. With these elements in mind and NOFF's laser-focus on coffee pairings and cuisine, we've created a Korean minimalist aesthetic specifically for NOFF that complements rather than distracts from the main stars of the show: the coffee and food.

Natural materials, sleek white counters for a decluttered, clean look, a neutral palette with occasional pops of navy blue – the brand colours – and minimalist decor that primarily features plants or rocks all contribute to the overall aesthetic. The use of decorative rocks and plants throughout the space adds a touch of the outdoors, showcasing their raw beauty against the sleek lines of the minimalist furniture. This Korean-inspired interior design allows us to bring the beauty of nature indoors in a simple and elegant way.

The open floor plan with minimal barriers fosters a sense of flow and spaciousness, while strategically placed mirrored surfaces on the base of benches and around decorative sections reflect natural light, creating the illusion of a larger space.

Navy blue, the brand colour of NOFF, is strategically incorporated into the interior design to add visual interest and balance the neutral tones. The colour's deep, rich hue provides a striking contrast against the predominantly white and wood elements of the space. The pops of navy blue are carefully placed throughout the space, creating a sense of cohesion and reinforcing the brand identity. Navy blue shelves provide a striking contrast against the neutral walls and create a focal point for displaying merchandise and decor, while navy blue sconce lights are installed near the seating areas, adding a touch of colour and providing task lighting.

Walnut-toned wood is used throughout the café, adding a touch of warmth and sophistication while maintaining the natural material aesthetic of Korean minimalism. Terrazzo tables with sleek metal bases provide subtle pops of colour, keeping your eye on the food presented, while the minimalist upholstered wood chairs feature a half-arm dining chair shape to keep the silhouettes clean and unfettered by bulky arm rests. The café features a mix of tables and chairs, as well as upholstered bench seating and asymmetrical wooden benches built into the walls, providing more comfortable seating options for patrons who are waiting for a table or simply there for a drink.

The café's minimalist and modern aesthetic is further enhanced by the ample natural light provided by floor-to-ceiling windows. Artificial lighting in the form of large round paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling offer soft, ambient lighting while spotlights and sconce lights cast a warm glow over each individual table, creating the perfect stage for food presentation. As the Korean minimalism aesthetic often utilises materials such as stone, wood, silk and rice paper, the paper lanterns pay homage to tradition as well.

NOFF's minimalist Korean design is a testament to the power of simplicity and functionality. By carefully selecting materials, colours and layout, we've created a space that is both visually appealing and conducive to a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience. The focus on clean lines, natural light and minimalist decor allows the coffee and food to take centre stage in order to fully showcase NOFF's commitment to the quality and excellence of their cuisine.
