Interior Design Project Info

THE BRIEF:
The vision – to build an extraordinary underground wine cellar housing the world's finest wines, and to set a new standard in exclusive wine appreciation through one-of-a-kind wine-tasting experiences and exclusive wine dinners in Malaysia's largest underground wine cellar.

THE DESIGN CONCEPT:
Inspired by an underground cave concept, Lavo Gallery redefines the wine-tasting experience with the allure of an underground winery – a concept unprecedented in Malaysia.

Draped in dark browns and greys, and adorned with leather, velvet, wood and textured paint, the design emanates warmth and sophistication. The theme is dark, blending classic elegance with comfort, creating a luxurious yet inviting ambience.

The Art of Arrival: A Reception Where the Elements Converge
The entrance sets the tone with a brick reception area ensconced in glass; the juxtaposition of raw, rustic brick against the sleek clarity of glass instantly creates a visually striking entry. Suzuka®’s brick veneers impart a warm, inviting ambience, masterfully achieving the perfect balance between rugged comfort and posh elegance.

Red Brick Walls and Curved Ceilings: Transforming the Space with Crafted Elegance
Brick veneers from SUZUKA® cover the walls and curved ceilings to create an atmosphere of rugged warmth, luxurious sophistication, and cosy comfort. These veneers carry just a fraction of real brick thickness and streamline installation without compromising texture or durability. The result is a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere, providing a sensory introduction to the novel concept of the underground wine cave.

Lighting the Way: Illuminating Ambiance
The lighting design at Lavo Gallery is a thoughtful orchestration that contributes to its unique ambience. Concealed and ambient lighting in recessed areas cast a gentle glow, establishing a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels elegant and invites relaxation.

Industrial-chic circular pendant lights, reminiscent of vintage wagon wheel chandeliers but with a modern flair, along with charming standing lamps, contribute to the overall aesthetic, creating a balance between functionality and visual appeal.

Space Design: Curated Pockets of Pleasure
Designed for both solitary wine connoisseurs and group enthusiasts, the pockets of space at Lavo Gallery offer cosy settings for one and all. Patrons can savour their wine in an atmosphere tailored to individual and collective preferences, overall maximising comfort, privacy, and providing varied vantage points to enjoy the extensive wine display.

Making a Statement with White: A Fusion of Form and Functionality
The strategic use of white tabletops is limited to areas designated for wine service. This deliberate choice serves a dual purpose – providing functional surfaces for observing the colour nuances of the wines and acting as focal points within the gallery.

The Iron Gate: The Threshold of VIP Exclusivity
A striking black iron gate, adorned with intricate metalwork, defines the entrance to the VIP wine area. Beyond its function as a physical barrier, this iron gate symbolises the passage into a refined space exclusively dedicated to exceptional wines for the most discerning patrons.

The Artistry of Lavo Gallery's Orange Staircase: A Journey into Opulence
Guiding guests from the ground floor to the exclusive wine gallery, the striking orange staircase at Lavo Gallery is more than just a passageway; it is an enchanting sensory journey for all who pass through it.

Stone-Finished Wall and Walkway: The Path to Vinous Splendour
Patrons are greeted by a stone-finished walkway before entering the main gallery, setting the scene for the wine-inspired wonderland beyond. A plush brown velvet armchair, illuminated by backlit Lavo Gallery signage and recessed lighting against the curved brick wall, serves as a foretaste of the opulent realm within.

THE CHALLENGE:
Navigating the Depths: Crafting Elegance in Subterranean Spaces
Constructing an underground winery presented unique challenges due to the lack of scenery and natural lighting present on site. To make the transition from cave to classy, mood lighting, texture, and colour were used to infuse this subterranean space with elegance, comfort, and an inviting ambience. As a result, the concept of a cave has been redefined as a luxurious escape for wine connoisseurs.
