Interior Design & Architectural Project Info

Introduction: The “Kaleidoscope of Petaling Street” concept embodies a blend of nostalgia and modernity, aiming to reflect the rich cultural tapestry of Petaling Street while infusing it with contemporary touches. This design for a new hotel brings the vibrant essence of the area to life through carefully curated interiors, where each space offers a fresh perspective—just like a kaleidoscope that reveals new angles and surprises at every turn. It’s a design that evokes a sense of returning to a beloved place, with each corner offering a new chapter of memories, making this hotel a place to come back to again and again.

Main Lobby & Waiting Area: Stepping into the hotel, guests are greeted with the intricate craftsmanship of Sarawakian beading, delicately woven into the entrance to symbolize the intricate cultural fabric of Malaysia. The archways, inspired by traditional Chinese designs, offer a nod to the heritage of Petaling Street, framing the vivid colors and vibrant energy of the lobby. Every step through the space is punctuated by red ventilation blocks, echoing the streets outside. The furniture and decorative pieces have been carefully selected to enhance the eclectic and dynamic character of the lounge. Trinkets reminiscent of the local markets further enhance this journey through time and space, inviting guests into a vibrant world where old meets new.

Café: The café exemplifies the blend of “the new in the old,” combining retro design elements with modern touches. The use of rugs, ceiling features with beading, and anodized mirrors reflect a layered approach to design. Green marble surfaces and bronze pillars add sophistication, while the overall design remains rooted in the nostalgic feel of the area’s coffee shops. The café presents a stylish yet familiar atmosphere, inviting guests to experience a unique mix of past and present.

Mezzanine Floor - Restaurant: The mezzanine restaurant reflects the essence of a traditional kopitiam, elevated with modern design sensibilities. Rattan, paneling, and classic flooring create a warm, inviting environment, while gold accents and kitkat tiles provide a refined touch. Marble finishes highlight the space’s luxurious yet grounded character, honoring Petaling Street’s cultural heritage while embracing the contemporary dining scene.

Lady of the Night - Club Lounge: Inspired by the history and allure of Petaling Street, the whimsically titled "Lady of the Night" club lounge captures the vibrant energy of the area’s nightlife. Adorned with soft pink lace curtains and enticing crystal pendant lighting, the space features jewel-like details that enhance its inviting atmosphere. Pink-tinted mirrors, with beveled edges designed to mimic diamond facets, contribute to the luxurious feel. The designer furniture, draped in soft velvets, complements the club’s sultry ambiance, offering a chic and timeless lounge experience.

Corridor: Transitioning from one space to another, the corridor carpets symbolize a journey from old to new. The deliberate play of light to dark tones serves as a visual metaphor for the seamless blend of tradition and innovation that defines this entire concept. The corridor acts as the connective tissue of the hotel, transitioning guests from one uniquely designed space to another.

Rooms: The guest rooms are designed to evoke a sense of calm and luxury, with earthy tones and natural textures creating a cozy, grounded atmosphere. Tatami-inspired beds and thoughtful design elements contribute to the serene vibe, while modern paneling and plush carpets enhance comfort. The rooms strike a perfect balance between simplicity and elegance, offering a luxurious yet down-to-earth ambiance that reflects the humble cultural richness of Petaling Street.

Toilets: Minimalist in design, the toilets incorporate locally sourced wood furniture, with round handles on the joinery for an oriental touch. The walls are clad in cement tiles, adding texture and a raw, natural aesthetic that complements the overall minimalist approach. The space maintains an understated elegance, aligning with the hotel's theme of simplicity, comfort, and cultural respect. The use of natural materials ensures that the design feels both contemporary and deeply connected to the local environment.

Rooftop: The rooftop is where the magic of the “Kaleidoscope of Petaling Street” culminates. Featuring a clear glass sunroof and louvered windows, the rooftop captures the essence of open-air living, allowing guests to bask in natural light while enjoying panoramic views. The bar area, adorned with herringbone-cut marble, echoes the streets below, creating a subtle connection between the design and the urban landscape. The infinity pool, nestled beside palm trees, overlooks the lively streets, providing a peaceful yet immersive retreat. Though it offers a serene escape from the city’s hustle, this rooftop remains closely tied to the vibrant energy of Petaling Street.
