Interior Design & Architectural Project Info
Located in Penang's Auto City, "Jiù Garden" is a revitalized outdoor dining and leisure space celebrating recycled materials and historical charm. Named after the Chinese word "旧" (jiù), meaning "old," it emphasizes sustainability and creativity through repurposed elements.
Entrance Design
Adjacent to a parking lot, the entrance features a tall archway constructed from discarded scaffolding, decorated with old signage letters, scrap metal, and machinery parts, giving it an industrial look. The name "Jiu 旧" is spelled out with plastic bottles, illuminated by color-changing LEDs for night visibility.
Dining Area
Four small food stalls surround seating areas filled with vibrant recycled tables and chairs. Decor includes reclaimed wood art, ironwork, and repurposed furniture, creating a unique, sustainable atmosphere. Green plants enhance air quality and add a natural touch.
Stalls Design
Each stall integrates recycled materials with industrial aesthetics. For instance:
- Stall 1: Uses discarded wheel rims, grating, and corrugated sheets, with Coca-Cola cans forming the sign.
- Stall 2: Features colorful corrugated iron sheets, a zinc sheet counter, and an old shovel handle as the door handle.
- Stall 3: Combines louvered windows with zinc sheets, with its sign made from oil drums and coat hangers.
- Stall 4: Built with oil drums, grating panels, and polycarbonate light panels, it has a vintage feel with Edison bulb fixtures.
Photo Spot
This area, constructed from scrap materials, features a 6-meter-high structure of iron pipes and scaffolding, with "Art in D'Park" spelled out in iron. Smart LED lights enhance the atmosphere, making it a popular spot for photos.
Environmental Commitment
"Jiù Garden" demonstrates a sustainable approach to design by using recycled materials. Outdoor dining reduces enclosed space limitations, allowing for natural ventilation, which conserves energy, promotes low-carbon goals, and offers a comfortable, eco-friendly experience.
