Design Vision
The name Tairyo originates from NIPPON-KICHI There are a lot of autumn festivals to pray for bumper catch and a rich harvest held at many shrines in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture in October. The tairyo means good catch with a auspicious meaning to the word itself. Visual pleasant elements such as japan paper lanterns, carved windows, and sake barrel mostly large fish ornaments are seen in the corners or nook of the spaces.
With the idea of giving Tairyo a fresh iconic image, the owners request the designer to plan and design the restaurant into a restaurant that will leave a memorable impression for customer.
The designer combines "Japanese Dark Izakaya Style" and "Five Senses Experience" for the brand Tairyo Izakaya to create a branch at Penang Island.
To cultivate the immersive experience for the customer when savouring the delicacies, the light ambience is more to a subtle tone accompanying with the japan themed music, customer as if at japan izakaya.

The layout
The layout plan is divided to common area, outdoor dining, semi private dining and private lounge. The layout smooth flow’s ease client and service crew to move around the space.

Beverage bar
The beverage bar integrates with the cashier counter, enable staff to shift places from beverage to cashier in peak hours. The counter front is paved with charcoal tone stones that create a serene felt when entering the space.
Top of the counter lays display of Sake barrel with masculine black metal frame, wooden shelves design.

Common dining
Common dining area consist of a long streak of warm wood grain natural solid wood bar height dining spot, facing the exterior dining it allows customer to enjoy the view while dining.
A neat seating area is in the heart of the interior with a stretch of semi-private lit seating booth divides the crowds from a more bustle environment to a more tranquil private Teppanyaki showcase at the back of the restaurant.

Teppanyaki bar area
In Japan, teppanyaki is the highest form of dining in Japanese cuisine. Teppanyaki
cooking method is to roast the ingredients directly on a hot iron plate. These ingredients cannot be marinated and processed in advance but are quickly cooked and matured on a high-heat iron plate to retain their own nutrition and taste. Since the ingredients cannot be marinated and processed in advance, the requirements for raw materials are quite high. Teppanyaki is often made of superior materials and cooked instantly in front of diners by experienced chefs. In addition to satisfying the palate, it is also a special experience to appreciate the chef's cooking process.

Private Lounges
The 2 private lounges beside the Teppanyaki counter can fit in 6 diners each and up to 12 diners when merge into a spacious one room. The flexibility of the space is created with the japan inspired shoji screen texture sandwiching the plywood sliding doors to blocks out noises from the other rooms. This flexibility enables owner to arrange and plan, fully utilize the space.

The other private lounge in the middle part of restaurant can fit in maximum of 10 people. This exclusive VIP room is divided with fluted glass sliding door that allows people to see shadowy reflection only, decreasing the sounds from outside. The eye-catching rattan weaved fish pendant light as a focal point of the VIP rooms, giving a soft yet mystique vibrance vibe to VIP room.
