Creating comfort destination with a sense of local for independent travellers, the design draws inspiration from natural formations, local materials and enchanting local elements, aiming to create a connection to the landing place, to bring people closer to Desaru with its approachable design.

Located in the heart of Desaru town, this case is a 311-room hotel renewal project under the brand name of Four Points by Sheraton Desaru.

The design of the whole project has the same ideation from the lobby to the corridor to the rooms – to provide a tranquil retreat catering to the needs of the independent travellers, whether on business or leisure, with the combination of timeless classics, local traditional influences and modern details in the spaces.

Rattan weaving, although an iconic traditional craftsmanship and local inheritance, has been in decline due to its complicated manufacturing technique and low demands. With this in mind, the designer seeks to increase the utilization value of rattan weaving by integrating its beautiful geometric patterns and intersecting lines within the space. In a way, creating connections between the guests and the local inheritance through these touchpoints.

Warm, toned down color palette inspired from the natural formation of Desaru shoreline such as sand, rocks, the woods, and water dominates the space, delivering a calming and laid-back atmosphere.

In terms of space planning, the idea of having a room which enables business travellers to work comfortably and get well rested is what the design aiming for. Daybed and work desk are placed within the room to ensure ample space for both guests to work at the same time.

Localised bedhead reading lamp and table lamp above work desk provides soft light that is directed just at a particular region, be it the bed or the work desk, making them less intrusive. This way, if someone needs to continue working till late night and needed some lighting, the other guest can still continue resting without being disturbed.
