Interior Design Project Info
Our refurbishment condo project, Eclipse, is a stunning fusion of contrasting elements that evoke a sense of cosmic drama. We transformed the space with our reinterpretation of an eclipse as an interior design concept, creating a space where sleek curves collide with bold lines, and where the interplay of textures creates a captivating atmosphere. Eclipse, aptly named due to its many cosmos-inspired details, isn’t just an interior design project; it's a celestial collision of style and substance.
The walls, reminiscent of a lunar surface, are crafted from a sophisticated marble lookalike that shimmers with shades of grey and brown, evoking the vastness and mystery of the cosmos. The interplay of dark, swirling patterns and lighter veins creates a mesmerising visual spectacle, reminiscent of a celestial eclipse. This dramatic backdrop sets the stage for a symphony of contrasting elements. To pay homage to this phenomena, we utilised a lighter palette of creamy neutrals with plenty of soft lighting in some rooms, while in other spaces, shades of grey and black dominated the space – a play on the changes of light and dark that occur during an eclipse.
The interior design echoes the eclipse theme with its use of sharp, angular lines that intersect with the soft, rounded curves of furniture and decor. Rounded furniture and soft curves soften the angular lines of the space, creating a sense of fluidity and movement. The monochromatic palette, dominated by black and white with the barest hint of beige, cream and taupe, further enhances the dramatic effect, creating a sense of elegance and sophistication. The overall effect is a harmonious blend of modern minimalism and celestial wonder, with just the right balance of luxury without seeming too overdone. Some of the interiors, such as the bedroom, even included rounded wall corners which helped to open up the space further, giving it a bright airiness, by eliminating sharp angles.
Meanwhile, the interplay of light and shadow, accentuated by the strategic placement of lighting fixtures like a cocoon pendant light hanging above the living room area or the contemporary glass ball branch chandelier in the dining room, adds depth and drama to the overall design. Shelves, cabinets and wardrobes were backlit with subtle strip lighting to not only provide illumination but also to lend an almost spaceship-like feel to the home. We also opted to supplement the lighting in the bedroom with pendant lights that were also specifically chosen for their unique UFO shape – a detail that ties in with the theme of the home while also adding a minimalist contemporary feel to the space.
The right accessories play a part in the vision we had for Eclipse as well. Storage areas were intentionally kept streamlined with sleek white cabinetry, while wooden furniture was chosen from darker wood tones and tinted glass for a sleek, mysterious vibe. Black metal furnishings paired with marble surfaces completed the lunar aesthetic. Even with all these aesthetic upgrades, we did not forget to include the functionality aspect of the refurbishment. Maximising the space for the unit was a priority, with shelving and cabinets being built into the walls and niche shelving adding more space for displaying items or stashing essentials out of sight in the bathrooms and walk-in closet area.
Eclipse is more than just a room; it's an experience and a reminder of the interconnectedness of the Sun, Moon and Earth. It's a journey through a celestial landscape, where the beauty of the cosmos is reflected in the design and materials. It's a space that invites contemplation and wonder, leaving a lasting impression on all who enter.
