“Butter-cream” interior design style, as the name suggests, is to choose cream, light, and gentle colors for color matching. "Cream-colored", a low-saturated camel color between white and milk coffee, the color is full of light sweetness. Compared with pure white, it is a little more mellow and compared with milk coffee color, it is a little less intense.
This is a semidetached house in Batu Kawan, Penang. The client requires a bright, cozy, and soft interior design. In designing the furniture, the designer creates lines with radians, such as arcs, concave door panels, and half-rounded door panels are included in the design elements. From entrance, the design of the shoe cabinet is integrated with the display cabinet, and two drawers are designed in the middle to allow the owner to store small items such as keys and face masks. The design of the TV wall is a combination of two layers of boards which is plywood with laminate finish and semi-rounded wall panel with spray paint finish. There is also an arc design on the right side, with holes in the middle for lighting, which is simple but not monotonous.
From the staircase to the dining room, is a one-piece decorative wall panel and hidden doors, including a storage room, bathroom, and a bedroom door. The wall panel is a combination of light wood laminate plywood and white concave panel. The wavy effect of the concave panel makes the area more liveliness. When designing and choosing furniture, we also choose rounded models, such as a curve island and round dining table, so that the overall effect will be softer.
Bright off-white with soft earth color wood texture is chosen to be the main color combination for the master bedroom, combination of high brightness and low saturation becomes a cream color, bringing light and dense texture, soft and floating like a dream. The headboard of the master bedroom is designed in white and light wood tones which brings out the principal design of balance. The texture of wood is balanced with the white laminate to create the impression of equality in weight or importance. The fluted panel from the right side to the left of the bedhead panel represents the beginning of the hassle day until end of the day. When resting time, the LED strip light at the headboard acts as an ambient light instead of turning on all the ceiling lights. The designer also creates curve edging for the bedside table and wardrobe in order to match the overall design and prevent knocking at the sharp edges.
With the use of continuous materials and light colors, the aim is to obtain a bright, neutral, and warm ambient, at the same time, making use of the furniture and integrating it from the beginning of the project. The proposal values the space thanks to its simplicity, the different textures of the materials, and the light, leaving aside any excess or ornament and focusing on satisfying the needs of its inhabitants.
