1. Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery by NEVERMORE
What was once a former jewellery shop has been transformed into Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery thanks to NEVERMORE. Set in the heart of Georgetown, this establishment is an ode to culinary royalty, inspired by Auntie Gaik Lean herself and her Peranakan heritage. By choosing regal blue as the primary colour, the design firm accentuates the royal charm the space exudes. What makes this space a must-visit is the old-school charm of the preserved floor tiles and façade, along with the stunning kampung glass and Peranakan panels.

2. ALVA Kuala Lumpur by Design Dept
Creating a space that embodies organic minimalism, the Design Dept harmoniously blends simplicity with luxury and exclusivity with comfort in ALVA Kuala Lumpur. Inspired by ALVA’s design concept, “The Light of the Elf”, the Design Dept creates a dreamy sanctuary in the city with colour schemes that reflect the ever-changing sky. Curve-shaped furnishing with touches of gold coupled with the fibreglass feature wall and pink mineral paint, made from natural lime and marble dust, creates an ambience that not only exudes an organic aesthetic but artistic sophistication at the same time.

3. OITOM by Wowspace
Wowspace‘s collaboration with OITOM in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is a testament to their expertise in crafting culturally immersive spaces. Inspired by Chef Raphael Lee’s vision and Sabah’s rich heritage, Wowspace meticulously integrated Bornean architectural elements into the restaurant’s design. The Rungus LongHouse concept served as the foundation, blending traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics. The firm has even utilised indigenous materials like vertical wooden members and palm leaf-inspired light fixtures to create an ambience honouring Sabah’s cultural legacy while embracing modern sensibilities. Their innovative approach, marrying Bornean-Nordic aesthetics, results in a captivating space, creating an experiential journey filled with tradition and innovation.

4. Willow KL by Creamax Design Solution Sdn Bhd
Located within the five-star W Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Willow KL seamlessly blends nature and luxury within its space. Designed by Creamax Design Solution Sdn Bhd, the fine dining restaurant boasts a showstopping blossom tree as the centrepiece with lush hanging blossoms in the alfresco area. Paired with stunning views of KLCC, the space creates an illusion of dining in an enchanting garden. The firm has made this space truly picture-worthy by adding elegant curves, sophisticated herringbone flooring, and consistently using purple accents throughout the space.

5. IKI Omakase Restaurant by Millimetre Design Sdn Bhd
Millimetre Design ingeniously blends history and Japanese aesthetics in the IKI Omakase space. Honouring the 18th-century colonial house’s legacy, they infuse Japanese Zen gardens and Omakase elements seamlessly. Balau wood, symbolic of strength, is carved into sleek door handles, while the Shou Sugi Ban technique adds contemporary flair. Inside, the cosy reception area boasts grey concrete walls and historic brick accents, marrying Malaysia’s past with Japan’s minimalism. In the dimly lit dining area, spotlighting accentuates food presentation, while a private lounge overlooks a serene Japanese garden.

6. Kara Kara by Aoha Designs & Construction
Fans of the Brutalism design style will love Kara Kara by Aoha Designs & Construction. Seamlessly integrating bare building materials with touches of nature, the firm uses a monochrome palette with pops of colour and geometric lines. Prioritising function over form, Kara Kara boasts a minimalist vibe, yet its nuanced details exude an almost futuristic vibe. From contemporary-designed furniture consisting of blues, greys and pastel green to the spiral slide and concrete statue bursting through the wall, we’re sure patrons will be captivated at every corner of this establishment.

7. El Cerdo, TTDI by ARTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO
If you love a space that radiates glamour, then El Cerdo in TTDI should be at the top of your list! Designed by ARTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO, the firm expertly crafted this second outlet with a modern twist that takes inspiration from the stucco walls and walnut wood floors of its predecessor in Changkat. With a palette revolving around the golden pig statue, gold accents are scattered throughout the area. The main attraction is the lavish golden chain ceiling that was meticulously laid to create a stunning visual effect. To soften the space, the design firm incorporated curves and arches that can be spotted from the entrance to the VIP room.
