Once the festivities are over, guests have left, and the decorations have been taken down, your home is due for a thorough deep cleaning. It’s always best to start the new year feeling fresh and clean, and that applies to your home too!

This guide will help you manoeuvre through your home, making sure every section of your space is clean and spotless for a fresh start in the new year.

Bathroom

This should be the room in your home that you clean the most because it’s one of the most used and unhygienic spaces.

You can start by sorting through all the products you have and getting rid of anything that’s empty or expired. You’ll be surprised how many skincare products you hoard.

Then use a microfiber cloth to wipe down all the surfaces before giving your toilet and floors a good scrub.

Bedroom

When you move to the bedroom, make sure you are thorough. Start with the bed: strip the sheets and linen, then throw them into the washer.

Then if your mattress feels like it’s sagging or uneven, it’s time to flip and rotate it. This will not only help increase the lifespan of your bed, but will also give you better sleep.

Don’t forget to give your closet a purge and get rid of clothes you haven’t been wearing and donate them. The dressing table or vanity is also a hub for dust and germs so make sure to give the space a good wipe down while getting rid of expired products

Living Room

Seeing that your living room would entertain guests every now and then, it’s important to keep the space clean and welcoming.

Dust, vacuum and mop your floors and surfaces. As for curtains, rugs, carpets, and pillows, consider getting them professionally cleaned – this should be done at least once yearly.

If the electronics in your living room need repairs or maintenance, it’s time to stop putting it off and call the professionals.

Kitchen

It’s important to keep your kitchen clean all year round but year end is the time to get rid of all the leftovers in your fridge and get dispose the expired food in your pantry. Open your cupboards, drawers, and storage spaces and clear the contents before wiping them down.

Wipe down all your electronic appliances and get rid of crumbs and grease that have been building up all year long. Just like in every other room, make sure your washcloths, rugs, and kitchen towels are dry cleaned or replaced with new ones.
