Some days, it’s just too hot to go outside. But staying in means losing out on the ambience of a rustic industrial café or modern swanky bar – or does it? Here’s an idea: design a home with hidden fun spots so you can stay in and chill out on a hot day.

Some days, just crossing the non-air conditioned hallway from the living room to the bedroom can get you working up a sweat.

How do you even brave that journey to the parking lot to drive to the nearest café? Here’s a better idea: stay at home. If your queen-sized bed and L-shaped sofa no longer entice you, set up more lounge and activity spots at home like…

The Kitchen-Slash-Bar

Old school kitchens have a bad reputation for being the “ugly room” that’s great for making the meals to bring out to common areas like the living area and dining room. Well, contemporary kitchens are done with that label; kitchen designs now allow interaction between hosts and guests.

Incorporate a bar top by the kitchen or dining area as an added mingle space. The hanging bottle storage here completes this home bar setup. Who needs the local watering hole?

If you don’t have space for a full fledge bar, then incorporate a bar-like glass storage into your kitchen. The shelves in this kitchen mimic the shelves at a speakeasy, so your guests can feel like they can enter the kitchen to mix their drinks before bringing them to the living room to enjoy.

The Multipurpose Dining Table

The dining table is great for gathering the family. This design is great as stationaries and other knick knacks are kept behind the pillar during meal times, and can be easily brought to the table for board game sessions.

The Kids’ Room

Communal spaces at home don’t have to be reserved for the living and dining areas, they can also be dedicated spaces in bedrooms, like the kids’ room. Spend precious time playing and interacting with your children by designing comfortable seating in the form of a plush carpet, chairs, or even a swing seat!

In the same way, a seating area in your bedroom where the kids can hang out, or even just a space for you to lounge when you’re not ready to count sheep. Don’t let small spaces limit you; simply place a comfy seat at the corner of the room with a cosy throw and nearby entertainment like a book, magazines, or an iPad.

The Walk-In Wardrobe

Set up a lounge area in your walk-in wardrobe so you’ll have a space to sit and admire your colour coordinated white t-shirts while thinking about how you have nothing to wear.
