Why you should care

Sort out your life and your home this new year with these resolutions that you should follow through with. Your home needs just as much love and care as your personal life. So practise the home habits and you’ll have yourself a better living space in the new year.

Have you made your new year’s resolutions yet? How about  adding in some home habits to the list?

Your home needs just as much love and care as your personal life. Practising these home habits will not only positively impact your living space, but also your lifestyle!

1 Make Time for Proper Cleaning

yearly organising

Schedule time to clean your space periodically. You probably don’t clean on the regular and only really make the effort when the mess is just too much to handle. This coming year, schedule cleaning times and stick with it. This new habit will make your space that much more habitable and can actually improve your health in the long term!

Check out our guide on how how often you should clean certain household items.

2 Declutter and Organise Monthly

If you’re anything like us, your closet, dressing table, and kitchen are almost always full of clutter. But what they say is true, “clear space, clear mind”. So decluttering on the regular will help you work better and feel better. Pick a space each month and thoroughly sort through the area. Then reorganise the space to keep it clean and tidy – we recommend drawer organisers or trays that can easily be found at Daiso to neaten up the space and make it easier for you to find things.

3 Schedule Laundry Days

Laundry days are dreadful. We try to avoid them as much as we can only to end up , going to work in last Friday’s clothes or spending the day in our PJ’s. It can be a drag but doing the laundry is a necessity. Set regular laundry days and making it a habit. Regular laundry loads = more wardrobe choices!

4 Work on Your Carbon Footprint

Consider going greener in 2017. When you think of green homes, you think solar panels and hybrid systems but you can start small by reducing your carbon footprint. Apply the advice your mum (rightfully) nags at you, “switch off the lights and fan when you leave the room!”.

Use LED and Compact Fluorescent Lights instead of  fluorescent bulbs and natural sunlight instead of the dryer. Also unplug your electronics when you’re not using them and take up urban gardening and composting! (You’ll thank us later)

Here are some urban gardening activities you can take up to get started,

5 Put your Fridge First

We’ve all been there, opening our fridge to grab a delicious treat, only to be welcomed by a toxic waft. Just like our laundry pile, we always leave messes in our fridge until it becomes unbearable. Avoid unpleasant experiences and clean out your fridge regularly. Cleaning out your fridge will not only keep things fresh longer but you’d also be able to keep track of everything in there!
