How Thoughtful Design Turned Paramount’s Office into a Thriving Hub

Driven by its mission to cultivate a progressive and employee-centric work environment, Paramount Corporation Berhad engaged its design experts at Scalable Malaysia to reimagine their headquarters.

The result highlights the power of thoughtful interior design in shaping workplace dynamics. Led by a team of dedicated professionals, Lily Soon, Lee Tuck Onn, Ooi Rou Jie, and Mac Shao Ru, this project exemplifies how a well-designed office can enhance productivity and foster a positive corporate culture.

Scalable Malaysia’s approach began with a thorough assessment of Paramount’s existing workspace. “We conducted a site visit to understand their requirements and identify areas for improvement,” explains Lily Soon, Assistant General Manager. This meticulous process ensured that the new design aligned with Paramount’s operational needs and corporate identity.

“Our primary goal was to create a comfortable and welcoming environment for Paramount’s employees,” states Lee Tuck Onn, Interior Designer. Recognizing that the office is a significant part of their daily lives, the design focused on promoting well-being and productivity. The new office provides a refreshing and engaging workspace, distinct from their previous environment.

Paramount’s commitment to sustainability was a key consideration. Located within a green-certified building, the office incorporates eco-friendly features. “This new office utilizes smart systems, including facial recognition and a VAV air-conditioning system, to optimize energy efficiency,” shares Lily Soon. The use of green-certified materials, Greenguard-certified carpets and laminates, and strategically placed planter boxes contribute to a healthy indoor environment.

Creating an open and collaborative space while ensuring privacy was a design challenge. “We maximized natural lighting in communal areas and workstations,” explains Lily Soon, with Lee Tuck Onn adding, “Glass partitions and soundproof ceilings were used to provide privacy without compromising the open feel.” Planter boxes were incorporated to define zones within the open workstation areas.

Scalable Malaysia went beyond aesthetics to consider the holistic needs of Paramount’s employees. “We engaged with each department to understand their operational needs and daily routines,” says Lily Soon. This approach led to the creation of functional spaces that support employee well-being and productivity.

The design of Paramount Corporation Berhad’s new office is marked by several distinctive features. Upon entering, the reception area makes a strong impression with its striking counter and membrane lighting, creating an inviting and nature-inspired ambiance. The boardroom and dining area are seamlessly integrated, facilitating smooth transitions between meetings and meals.

In the workstations, nature-inspired elements and strategically placed planter boxes promote a calming and productive atmosphere. The pantry serves as a lifestyle-focused space, designed for relaxation and informal interactions. Additionally, each of the meeting rooms features a unique color scheme, creating distinct atmospheres tailored to the size and purpose of the gatherings. The CEO rooms however, are personalized spaces, blending open and closed shelving with a private retreat area. Finally, the HOD offices utilize floating cabinets and strategic shelving to maximize space and functionality.

The project presented various challenges, including accommodating diverse employee needs and working within structural constraints. “We addressed these challenges through careful planning and creative solutions,” says Lily Soon. Reflecting on their favorite spaces from the completed project, Lily and Onn answer the reception area for its unique blend of modern and natural elements, while Rou Jie spotlights the pantry’s relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
