Cosentino, a globally recognized leader in the realm of sustainable surfaces for architecture and design, has officially launched its groundbreaking first Global Trend Report: “Shaping Tomorrow: Future Design & Architecture.”
This in-depth publication serves as an essential guide, illuminating five pivotal macro trends that are anticipated to exert a significant influence on the design and architectural landscape in the coming years and beyond.

The meticulously researched report identifies the following key macro trends, each explored in detail within its 400+ pages:
Origin

This trend underscores a growing appreciation for the richness and authenticity of local culture, heritage, architecture, food, and fashion as fundamental inspirations in design. It emphasizes creating a stronger emotional connection to spaces by embracing historical and regional nuances. Designer Fernando Laposse highlights the connection to elements “not heavily influenced by human presence,” drawing a parallel to the concept of “terroir” in winemaking. The trend palette features vibrant and vintage greens, burgundy, yellow-based greens, and terracotta oranges, with materials like Dekton® Kraftizen Umber, Dekton® Pietra Kode Ceppo and Avorio, petrified wood, cacti leather, and yaré fiber taking center stage.
Solace

Recognizing the profound impact of our surroundings on emotional well-being, the “Solace” trend focuses on designing spaces that prioritize sensory experiences. It delves into how color, texture, scent, and lighting can be strategically employed to cultivate environments that support mental and emotional health. Spanish Interior Designer Patricia Bustos envisions the future home as a “sanctuary” where the “sensory and the emotional are prioritized.” Gentle greens, aquas, pale violets, soft peaches, and warm neutrals define this palette, with materials such as Silestone® Le Chic Bohème Versailles Ivory, Dekton® Pietra Edition Sandik, Dekton® Onirika Trance, Sensa® Vancouver, porous ceramic, plastic, silk, and acrylic playing key roles.
Nature

With sustainability becoming an increasingly critical imperative, the “Nature” trend advocates for a more modest and mindful approach to design. It champions the reassessment of material priorities and the creative reuse of existing items to inject new life into designed spaces. Brazilian Architect João Armentano emphasizes that successful projects should “enhance people’s lives” while also having a “positive impact on the world.” The color scheme includes greenish-grays, bluish-blacks, dim oranges, avocado greens, and ecru, with materials like Silestone® Sunlit Days Posidonia Green, Earthic by Silestone® XM Ffrom 03 and Raw G, Dekton® Pietra Kode Grigio, wood, wool, and other eco-friendly options being prominent.
Urban

Addressing the realities of growing urban populations and the evolving climate, the “Urban” trend focuses on designing future cities with versatility and adaptability in mind. It considers the balance between heritage and innovation, tranquility and stimulation, as well as new household compositions. The goal is to create multifunctional spaces where occupants can seamlessly work, play, and live. Kathryn Gustafson, a founding partner of Gustafson Porter + Bowman, stresses the importance of “modularity of space” and “adaptability” in designing for climate change. The color palette features medium-reds, classic blues, warm grays, bright yellow, and deep purples, with materials such as Dekton® Pietra Edition Trevi, Silestone® Le Chic Romantic Ash, Silestone® Urban Crush Brass Relish, Sensa® Black Beauty, woven sun shades, concrete, and brick being key.
Wonder

This trend envisions a more human-centered approach to design, aiming to create moments of surprise, amazement, and compassion. It explores how buildings, interiors, and objects that break free from the mundane through innovative use of colors, textures, and materials will continue to gain prominence. Designer Tom Faulkner emphasizes the importance of designs that can “stand up to the elements and continue to look beautiful.” The color palette includes reddish-blues, bluish-reds, reddish-yellows, blue-greens, and near-black purples, with materials like Dekton® Laurent and Amethyst, Silestone® Le Chic Bohème Jardin Emerald, Dekton® Khalo, textured vessels, deco tile, and recycled materials contributing to this aesthetic.
The extensive 400+ page report not only details these trends but also supports them with inspiring mood boards, carefully curated color palettes, diverse material selections (including Cosentino’s innovative Dekton® and Silestone® surfaces), insightful global case studies, and exclusive interviews with internationally acclaimed designers and architects such as Tom Dixon, Serena Confalonieri, Kathryn Gustafson, Fernando Laposse, Regina Sturrock, Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Cristophe Penasse, Patricia Bustos, and João Armentano, among many others.
