ADA 2024 Week celebrated creativity, innovation, and collaboration in design, with inspiring talks, award presentations, brand showcases, and a focus on sustainability, highlighted by Tesla’s involvement and a charity fundraiser that raised RM10,493.

The Atap Design Awards (ADA) 2024 Week was a spectacular celebration of creativity, innovation, and community within the design industry. Held from November 21st to 23rd, the event spanned three unforgettable days, with the first two hosted at the luxurious M Resort & Hotel in Petaling Jaya, and the final day at Tesla Malaysia’s showroom. 

Themed “Driving Design Forward,” this year’s event was inspired by Tesla’s ethos of innovation and sustainability, perfectly aligning with Atap’s mission to elevate the design industry. With 298 awards presented, 11 esteemed jurors from across the globe, and numerous brand collaborations, ADA 2024 Week truly set a new benchmark for excellence.

The first day of ADA 2024 Week unfolded with an inspiring lineup of discussions and showcases. The day began with engaging sessions, including the panel discussion “Behind the Masterpiece – Global Design Stories,” where esteemed industry leaders like Nghiêm Đình Toàn, the founder of me+ Architect in Vietnam, and YC Chen, the founder of hoo based in Hong Kong, shared their invaluable insights into the creative processes behind their iconic designs. This was followed by “Trends Guide: Transforming Spaces with Colors – Essential Color Guide 2025,” presented by Jotun Malaysia, which offered a glimpse into the future of colour trends poised to redefine interior aesthetics. Another highlight was “Building a Brand with Design: Turning Ideas into Icons,” a session that unpacked how intentional design drives brand identity and creates lasting impressions.

This year, ADA introduced interactive live polls and Q&A sessions, encouraging real-time audience engagement and ensuring active participation throughout the event. Attendees were able to voice their opinions, ask questions, and contribute to discussions, fostering a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere. Complementing these enriching conversations, Ligne Roset by Tekni served as the official furniture partner, elevating the conference experience with their timeless, contemporary designs that seamlessly blended function and style. Jura, our Premium Lifestyle Partner at ADA Week 2024, added a touch of luxury with their product display by serving piping hot premium coffee on Day 1 and Day 2. They also contributed to the charity fundraiser, providing the winning Jura Coffee Machine for the lucky draw, bringing even more excitement to the event.

Design Fusion highlighted exciting collaborations between brands and creatives. Goldenhome x Doubble Interior showcased a customizable home gym, while Marmo Grande x Pocket Square presented elegant tile concepts. Antico Stone x Scalable Malaysia wowed with luxurious stone designs, and Global Titanium x WO Atelier explored innovative materials. These dynamic partnerships set an inspiring tone for the event.

Day 2 was a night to remember, opening with a heartfelt speech by Atap’s co-founder Seow Yaohan, who expressed deep gratitude to the design community:

“Today is the crystallisation of everyone’s hard work! Your continued support has helped us build the thriving community and platform we have today. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for design.”

This note set the stage for the grand award presentations, celebrating outstanding achievements across 31 categories. Among the highlights were awards for Best Use of Color, Best Commercial Design, Best Residential Design, and the newly introduced Best Immersive Design, recognising designs that truly engage the senses and offer transformative experiences. However, the true highlight of the night was the Designer of the Year award, which honoured four exceptional visionaries whose groundbreaking work has redefined industry standards and continues to shape the future of design.

Southern Region Winner – DAA Design Associates Sdn Bhd

Northern Region Winner – Dare Solution 

East Malaysia Winner- J Hous Studio

The evening also spotlighted Atap’s collaboration with Epic Homes, Creators’ Club and Wildflowers KL in a meaningful charity fundraiser. Guests participated by purchasing signature cocktails, with proceeds dedicated to building homes for underserved communities. Entrepreneur Kenneth Tan spearheaded the initiative, and contributors were entered into a lucky draw for a Jura ENA 4 Black coffee machine worth RM4,999. One delighted guest walked away with this coveted prize, adding excitement to the night. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the fundraiser successfully collected a total of RM10,493, making a meaningful impact for the cause.

The gala dinner radiated glamour, from its meticulously curated setup to the exquisite dining experience. Guests mingled, surrounded by peers and industry icons, in an evening that perfectly captured the essence of the design world.

The final day of ADA 2024 Week moved to Tesla Malaysia’s showroom, where cutting-edge design and sustainability converged. The day began with the unveiling of the Winning Gallery Showcase, a stunning exhibit highlighting the winning projects and designers from this year’s awards. Attendees marvelled at the creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation behind these exceptional works, making the showcase a true celebration of design excellence.

Among the honours presented on Day 3 was the Atap Design Awards Student Icons, recognising three winners and ten finalists for their groundbreaking contributions to design innovation. The event also spotlighted the Atap’s Picks: Products of the Year, celebrating standout creations that set new standards for functionality and aesthetics. the Best Young Designers Awards, which recognised promising talents nominated by their peers, concluded the day’s celebrations. Tesla’s involvement amplified the event’s theme of “Driving Design Forward”, offering attendees a glimpse into the future of sustainable innovation.
