Atap DesignVoyage 2024: A Successful Journey into Innovation and Design

The third edition of Atap DesignVoyage took place in Kuala Lumpur and was a resounding success, with 42 passionate designers from 20 designer firms, including Stuarts Design, Scalable MY, Stoked Associates, and many more, coming together for a full-day field trip. Diving into innovation, technology, and craftsmanship in home design, the event provided participants with exclusive access to top showrooms and factories, giving them a firsthand look at the latest trends in materials and home technology.

The journey began at Stone Empire, one of Malaysia’s leading suppliers of natural and engineered stone. Mr. Chan Chin Keong, CEO of Stone Empire welcomed the group and shared the company’s long-standing expertise, built over 30 years in the stone industry. He emphasised Stone Empire’s direct connections to quarries and their specialisation in natural marble, engineered stone, Neolith, and sintered stone. With state-of-the-art technology, Stone Empire transforms raw materials into stunning surfaces that are not only functional but also works of art. “Stones and marbles are nature’s finest art,” Mr. Chan said, as participants explored the impressive range of stone surfaces and learned about their applications in modern interior design.

The next stop on the tour was the Samsung x Gamuda Land showroom, where participants were introduced to the innovative world of Samsung Bespoke AI Home. Mr. Chew from Samsung shared how the brand is leveraging AI technology to enhance modern living such as incorporating Bixby Home into home devices, lighting and appliances. “At Samsung, we are harnessing the power of AI to make living better and simpler for all,” he said. Participants explored the Bespoke AI Home, a fully integrated smart home system designed to provide seamless connectivity and personalized experiences. From smart refrigerators to AI-powered laundry solutions, Samsung’s offerings impressed with its ability to simplify daily tasks while enhancing the overall lifestyle of homeowners.

The final stop was at Delux, a leading name in home security solutions. Delux showcased its industry-leading products, including its patented trackless folding autogate and premium security doors. “Having built the largest trackless autogate and security door showroom in Malaysia, we’re excited to present our finest security solutions from our patented hinges and lock systems in our aluminium gates to our precision technology and security in our keyless digital locks,” expressed Ms. Connie Tiong from Delux. Participants were given a detailed tour of Delux’s innovative systems, learning how these high-tech security features offer both convenience and peace of mind for homeowners.

The day ended with dinner and networking at Black Tap at Sunway Resort Hotel, where participants shared their experiences and reflected on the valuable insights they gained throughout the event. “Atap DesignVoyage was so well-organised, from the informative presentations and tours to the fun vibe on the bus and networking dinner,” one design firm shared. “The team did well in maintaining a vibrant atmosphere and enjoyable atmosphere, even with a large crowd,” highlighted another participant.

From the artistry of stone surfaces to the smart integration of technology and the importance of home security, each stop provided a unique perspective on the future of home design, offering participants a firsthand look at the latest advancements in materials, home automation, and security.
